Managing Editor® Inc. Speeds Content
Transmission with Customer
Communication Software

FaxAction receives editorial or advertising materials via fax,
e-mail, web, electronic file transfer, or scanned hard copy

JENKINTOWN, PA (JUNE 14, 2001) — Managing Editor® Inc. (MEI), a Philadelphia based
software company, presents FaxAction
, the customer communication
software that handles virtually any type of electronic submission, 24 hours a day.
By using FaxAction, newspapers can receive editorial or advertising materials
transmitted by fax, e-mail, web, electronic file transfer, or scanned hard copy, and
confirm receipt of the information within seconds. FaxAction will also integrate
with MEI’s Roundhouse
® ad tracking system so clients can submit materials
directly to the Roundhouse database. MEI will conduct demonstrations of
FaxAction in booth #2603 at NEXPO 2001 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention
Center in New Orleans, June 16-19.

FaxAction eliminates the need to re-key advertising content by offering users
remote text entry and web-based advertising forms. The FaxAction Data
Management System contains software components that provide high-end OCR
functions, enhance text quality, and link FaxAction information to a publishing
system’s ad costing and tracking process. Editorial submissions are handled by
the FaxAction editorial module, which can receive letters to the editor, statistics,
obituaries, press releases, and more. The FaxAction software then enhances
typed information, links the text to graphic or photo files, and routes it to the
proper folders and baskets.

"By offering round-the-clock submission of advertising elements, FaxAction will
help newspapers provide great customer service for their advertising clients,"
said Mark Leister, vice president of business development. "MEI has always
been committed to developing and distributing technology that newspaper
publishers need to stay competitive, and FaxAction technology provides
newspapers with a convenient, effective tool for their customers."

A network-compatible system, the FaxAction server, which runs on Windows
NT, is fully integrated with a variety of front-end systems. The FaxAction client
software can run on Windows, OS/2, and Macintosh operating systems.

"FaxAction has been successfully implemented by dozens of newspapers across
the country, with great results," said Karl Costenbader, president of Competent
Technologies, the developer of FaxAction. "We’re excited about the distribution
opportunities MEI can provide for FaxAction, and MEI’s superior integration
expertise will benefit newspapers that implement this technology."
